Make Friday the 13th a Fun Day!

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th! EEEEEEEK! Okay, so I am completely and totally not superstitious in any way....but I was thinking about how this day doesn't come around very often, and with Halloween around the corner people will probably make a big deal out of it. So why not make a big deal out of it in a good way?!

So I came up with 13 ways you can celebrate Friday the 13th in a NON Superstitious way!

1. Hide 13 notes around the house- one leads to another, sort of like a scavenger hunt and the 13th note has a piece of candy or some sort of prize attached to it. Make sure you number each note so they don't find the wrong one and jump ahead.

2. Throw 13 pennies into the fountain at the mall.

3. Play "Mother May I" but everything they do has to have the number 13 in it. For example, "May I take 13 baby steps?" Or "May I take 13 hops?"

4. Make black cat puppets out of brown paper bags and have a puppet show!

5. Bake a cake and let your little one help. Make sure they help draw the number 13 on the cake with icing and use lots of sprinkles- maybe even 13 different kinds of sprinkles if you have that many.

6. Have a magic show! Pull out a cap, hat, and a deck of cards and let your child come up with his or her own magic tricks. Remind them to say "Abracadabra!"

7. Go on a hunt for 4-leaf clovers.

8. Have a campfire and tell spooky stories. If you have a fire pit outside that is perfect. If you don't, get a few empty toilet paper rolls with yellow and orange construction or tissue paper and have a pretend campfire. Make s'mores on the stove and have your child come up with a fun and/or spooky story to tell around the campfire.

9. Ask your child who their favorite Disney villain is and explain why. Then, watch that movie.

10. Make it educational! Have your child come up with math problems that always equal 13. For example 10 + 3 = 13 or 14 - 1 = 13. Have them come up with at least 13 problems.

11. Donate 13 items to charity.

12. Have play time set in 13 minute intervals. Set the timer on the stove for 13 minutes and do one activity such as Playdough or coloring and then when the timer goes off, set it again for 13 minutes and do a different activity. Once the timer goes off, the child has to drop what they are doing and go on to the next activity. This is perfect if you have multiple children because they don't always agree on what they want to play with. Now everyone wins!

13. Read 13 storybooks before going to bed....if your child make it that long before falling asleep.

Enjoy your Friday the 13th!
